Saturday, October 8

If you like opera, Eugene O’Neill Theater located in the main branch of Centro Cultural in San Pedro, will kick off their Live Opera season Saturday, October 8 at 10 a.m. from The Metropolitan Opera (MetLive in HD), with the play Tristan und Isolde, and opera in three acts by German Richard Wagner and based largely on the romance by Gottfried von Stassburg. Tickets cost between $20 and $40 depending on the location. The second show will be October 22 with Mozart’s Don Giovanni. The season will extend through May 2017.

International Short film Festival runs through Sunday, October 9

The Shnit (International Short Film Festival) is a transnational film festival that started out as a local initiative in Switzerland and now is takes place simultaneously in 8 cities in four different continents. Costa Rica is hosting the event for the sixth consecutive year, showing the best national and international short films. The festival began October 5th and will run through Sunday, October 9th at the Magaly movie theater. Today (Friday, October 7th) at 8:30 p.m. you can enjoy Made in Costa Rica 2 for just 5 thousand colones (less than $10). An all-day pass has a cost of 8.500 colones and individual shows 3.500 colones. The event closes on Sunday at 9 p.m. with the award ceremony and Best of 2016

Costa Rica’s National Theater will celebrate the bicentennial of “Tauromaquia” (Bullfighting), a series of 33 prints published in 1816 with bullfighting as a theme, by famous Spanish painter Francisco de Goya with a show called “The dance and music celebrate Goya”. The Sevilla Municipal Band under the direction of Francisco Javier Gutierrez and with the participation of soprano singer Maria Marta López and tenor Ernesto Rodríguez.
