Saprissa Fans Have Little to Worry About
Today is the final round of regular season matches between First Division teams, and four teams are vying for two tickets to the four-way semifinals that will wrap up the Summer Tournament.
For two of the teams, advancing to the next round will be completely up to their performance, while the other two teams depend on a mixture of tenacity, mathematical probability and plain old luck.
Here’s how the four hopefuls stack up today:
Santos de Guapiles
This team is currently in third place with 34 points, and it has two options for advancing:
- Coming away with a victory or a tied score,
- Losing, as long as Club Sport Herediano (CSH) does not beat Deportivo Saprissa or Club Sport Cartagines (CSC) does not beat Limon FC.
Club Sport Cartagines
Three options:
- Winning; taking three points and comfortably advancing.
- Coming away with a tied score, as long as Saprissa loses against CSH.
- Losing, but with the hope that neither CSH or Liga Deportiva Alajuelense (LDA) win their games.
Club Sport Herediano
- Only option: winning against Saprissa, but only with Santos losing and CSC losing, or even coming away with a tied score.
Liga Deportiva Alajuelense
- Long shot option: Winning against the leader of the tournament, Perez Zeledon, while hoping that Limon beats CSC and CSH comes away victorious against Saprissa.
What team has the best or worst chances? It’s hard to say. Santos and CSC should not get too comfortable, while CSH has a fighting chance and the manudos of LDA will have to fight an uphill battle.
Good luck to all teams.
