As of Wed July 28th Costa Rica has registered a total 16,800 confirmed cases of Covid-19 out of which 4,050 have already recovered. 334 people are currently hospitalized and 75 of them remain in the intensive care unit. The number of deaths related to this virus has increased to 133 with over 110 deaths in July alone.
The Costa Rican government announced the new measures that will be in place for the next couple of weeks, which is subjected to change depending on how the pandemic evolves throughout the country.

17 counties went from “Orange” to “Yellow’ alert the majority of them being in Alajuela. Please check the attached charts.

There will be “two phases” in August the “first phase” of reopening for 9 days followed by the “second phase” which is 12 days of closure followed by another 9 days of reopening.  This will also change depending on if the county is under yellow alert or under orange alert.

5:00 am to 10 pm during the weekdays

5:00am to 7:00 pm during the weekends

Monday through Sunday: 5 am to 5 pm
Restrictions by car plate apply as they have been.

August 10-21

Monday through Sunday: 5:00 am to 5 pm but transit is restricted by plate number in the opposite way:

Monday- Vehicles with license plates ending in 1 and 2 can drive
Tuesday- Vehicles with license plates ending in 3 and 4 can drive
Wednesday- Vehicles with license plates ending in 5 and 6 can drive
Thursday- Vehicles with license plates ending in 7 and 8 can drive
Friday- Vehicles with license plates ending in 9 and 0 can drive
Saturday- Vehicles with license plates ending in odd numbers can drive
Sunday- Vehicles with license plates ending in even numbers can drive

 

August 22-31

Reopening phase again.

“We have to consider the time it takes for the virus to incubate. We also have to consider the type of commercial activity”, commented Minister of Health Daniel Salas.

Activities that CANNOT REOPEN: casinos, public events, dance clubs, National Theater, Melico Salazar theater, amusement parks, bars, children playgrounds, any activities that involve massive attendance.

Open air tourism activities can resume.
