UPeace and Veritas University Press Release –  San Jose, Costa Rica. The University for Peace worked alongside the Ombudsperson’s Office of Costa Rica at the launch of the Second National Photography Contest, in Commemoration of the World Day of Peace, a day that is celebrated the 21st of September of every year.

This event took place at the Roberto Sasso Sasso Auditorium where Ombudsperson, Montserrat Solano and Rector of the University for Peace, Francisco Rojas, and the Rector of the Veritas University invited professional or amateur photographers to apply their work in this special contest and to create awareness around Costa Rica.

Rector Rojas delivered the inaugural lecture, in which stressed the fact that we possess so many powerful tools to educate for freedom and create awareness, and that one of them is the power of photography, motivating everyone to participate in this important contest.

In this second edition of the contest, photos must be alluding to freedom of expression, freedom of worship, freedom to live free from fear and freedom of necessity. These freedoms underpin the construction of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The photos that participate in the contest will be used in itinerant galleries to educate on human rights, and in spaces such as exhibitions, books, and workshops.

Participants must be over 15 years and cannot submit photographs that have participated and won awards in other photographic competitions in any form. Photographs should be sent in digital format and the contest closes on Wednesday August 31 at 11:59 p.m.

The contest is being organized in coordination with the University of Costa Rica, the Costa Rica Institute of Technology, the State Distance University, the School of Photography of the Veritas University and the University for Peace.
