The Costa Rica District Attorney Office opened an investigation against Otto Guevera Guth, congressman and former presidential candidate, as a suspect of money laundering.
On Friday during a search conducted in the legal offices linked to Guevara, the police found almost 40 million colones (almost $71,000.00) in a safe.
The objective of the search that took place Friday, was done with the objective of finding documentation or proofs related to a case of false declaration of assets to the Comptroller General of the Republic.
“The money seized during the search at the legal firm (where Guevara’s office is) on Friday has no relation to the congressman”, stated Guevara’s office through a press release.
This is the second police search Guevara has been subject of, the first one took place in November 29 and at that time it was in relation to an investigation related to the China Cement corruption scandal.
Guevara has served as a congressman for several periods and has run for the presidency of Costa Rica as the main figure of the political party Movimiento Libertario.
