The international firm Universum, published the results of the Global Workforce Happiness Index, which surveys more than 250 thousand professionals in 57 countries; Costa Rica ranked in the third position.

The survey takes into consideration three factors: the employee satisfaction at their current job, their likelihood of recommending their current employer and their sense of job loyalty.
According to Universum “over 49 million more workers will leave their jobs in 2018 than in 2012”; and one of the most common reasons an employee leaves a job is because he/she is not happy in their workplace; therefore, it is very important for employers to consider employee satisfaction and happiness in their business strategy.

The first position in the country was achieved by Denmark, which ranked number four last year; this place was occupied by Belgium last year but Belgium went down to the eight position for this years’ index.

Norway took second place, maintaining the same position it had in the prior edition.

Costa Rica ranked third for the second consecutive time, the majority of Costa Rican employees are, according to the survey, loyal and happy and likely to stay in their current jobs longer than the rest of their Latin American counterparts.

Sweden and Austria took fourth and fifth position.

“Employee happiness is crucial for retaining good talent as well as having a motivated workforce that delivers great results and continuously innovates. If the young professionals in an economy show low levels of discontent, this is a good sign for the economy as a whole” states Daniel Eckert, Universum Research Project Manager.
