The Costa Rican Youth Ballet (Ballet Juvenil Costarricense -BJC) announced the creation of the first Professional Classic Ballet Company in Costa Rica.

With 24 years of experience, the BJC is creating the National Ballet of Costa Rica with the purpose of giving Costa Rica its first formal classic ballet company, “we want to give the country an artistic and cultural gift for the enjoyment of all”, commented Viviana Clare, commercial director of the Company.

The artistic development of Ballet in Costa Rica will receive the support of the National School of Ballet of Cuba, with the Artistic direction of recognized ballet masters Pedro Martin Boza and Annia Rosales Surena; and also three Professional Ballet and Contemporary Dance companies in the United States and Europe, recognized internationally for their artistic rigour and technical level they demand of their dancers.

The auditions will take place May 5 and May 6, in order to register dancers must go to www.bjcballet.com and fill out the form. Dancers must be between 18 and 25 years of age, be an advanced Classical Ballet dancer and have an intermediate level of Jazz and Contemporary Dance.

The National Ballet of Costa Rica would officially begin operations in August and would have the first presentations in November.

“The idea is to surprise with a company of a very high level. This is a gift for art and culture in the country, since we never had a formal classical ballet company and we must celebrate it in large”, concluded Clare.
