The Central American Sporting Games 2017 came to their conclusion today in Mangua, Nicaragua; Costa Rican athletes had a solid participation and accumulated 176 medals in all.
Costa Rica took the third place when it comes to the total number of medals in all but the second when it came to gold medals with 69, only behind Guatemala, country that obtained 277 in general and 107 gold medals; Nicaragua summed 211 medals but only 55 of them were gold. Panama came in fourth with 151 medals (40 gold), El Salvador fifth with 146 total medals (37 gold), Honduras took home 105 medals (27 gold) and Belice was last with 12 total medals and only 2 gold.
The surfing team contributed in these last few days with 7 medals, 4 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze. The gold medals came by way of Leilani McGonagle and Carlos Muñoz and the tag team.
Other sports in which the Ticos stood out were: swimming, where Helena Moreno made the country proud establishing two new records for Central America; judo, karate, fencing, triathlon, cycling, female beach volleyball, female soccer, chess, athletics, MTB, hammer throw, among others.
Costa Rica had a total of 410 athletes participating in 27 disciplines.
