Andrea Vargas: Athletics (Women’s 100m Hurdles)
Noelia Vargas: Athletics (Women’s 20km Race Walk)
Gerald Drummond: Athletics (Men’s 400m Hurdles)
Beatriz Padron: Swimming (Women’s 200m Freestyle)
Arnoldo Herrera: Swimming (Men’s 200m Breaststroke)
Kenneth Tencio: BMX Freestyle
Costa Rica had the first participation in Tokyo 2021 with cyclist Andrey Amador who finished in position 68 in a race that was won by Richard Carapaz from Ecuador.
Surfer Brisa Hennessy classified to the third round after achieving second place in her first competition while Leilani Mcgonagle fell short on her first round and will have to seek a second opportunity in round 2.
Ian Sancho also advanced to the second round in Judo beating opponent Indrit Cullhaj from Albany.
Carlos Muñoz received the news of a last minute slot opening up after another athlete tested positive for Covid-19, he was stuck in Limon due to road closures as a consequence of the heavy rains, still managed with the help of many to make the flights to Japan but unfortunately lost his connection and was not able to make in in time to take part on the surf competition.
Nashy Lee lost against Turkish Hatice Kubra, ranked 2nd in the world.
Maria Jose Vargas is taking part of the road cycling competition at the time this article is published.
The next athlete to compete will be gymnast Luciana Alvarado at 2 a.m. Costa Rica time. Brisa, Leilani and Ian will have action again this Sunday, July 25 (for Costa Rica).
