Members of the Border Police apprehended a U.S. citizen of last name Lewis who was carrying a fake DIMEX card (foreigner’s migratory identity card) in the area of Guaycará, Golfito (South Border).

The DIMEX card is given to foreigners who are legally established in Costa Rica. According to the authorities, Lewis was carrying a DIMEX that had been awarded back in 2006 to the underage son of a scientist that had been in the country in an internship.

“This DIMEX card had been canceled since 2008 since the owner of the identification document was no longer in national territory; due to this we were able to confirm that Lewis was not in the country legally, but instead making use of a forged document”, explains the press release sent by the Ministry of Public Security.

Lewis remains in custody of the Golfito district attorney’s office.

This week the BorderPolice also confirmed the detention in this same area of a man of last names Mora Sosa who was wanted by the Costa Rican police in relation to a case of drug trafficking, and also the arrest of a man of surname Sanchez, who was required by the police as a suspect in a case of sexual abuse of a minor.
