Undefeated Costa Rican boxer Francisco Fonseca will have the challenge and the opportunity of a lifetime this August 26 when he steps into the ring with no other than young IBF World Super Featherweight Champion Gervonta Davis.

Gervonta Davis is Floyd Mayweather’s protégé, he has referred to him as “the future of boxing”, with 18 wins, 17 of them by KO (94%) Davis is a very dangerous opponent, he won his IBF world title belt back in January this year by defeating Jose Pedraza, and has had his first successful defense already this past May against Liam Walsh, both these fighters were undefeated coming into the fight.

Davis was initially scheduled to face Puerto Rico’s former world champion Rocky Martinez, however, for reasons that have not been released Martinez didn’t end up taking the fight.

Francisco Fonseca was born in Nicaragua but has lived in San Ramón, Alajuela, since he was a young boy; fighting with the Costa Rica flag since his debut in 2013, his passion for boxing, runs in his blood, he has two other brothers that also practice this sport.

At 23 years-of-age, Fonseca is the current IBF Inter-Continental Super Featherweight Champion, title that he won in August of 2016 in a fight against Luis Gonzalez in Costa Rica; Fonseca has 19 wins and one draw a KO’ percentage rate of 65%. Fonseca was supposed to fight Tevin Farmer the end of July, but Farmer suffered a gunshot wound during an altercation and this caused the cancellation of the fight.

Destiny brings Fonseca to this moment, the toughest fight of his career so far, his first world title shot, his first big international stage.

Davis vs. Fonseca will be in the co-main event in the Mayweather vs McGregor fight, August 26 at the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada. This is the second Costa Rican boxer fighting in big stage this month.
