Costa Rican boxer Bryan “Tiquito” Vásquez loss via Unanimous decisión against Puerto Rican Felix Verdejo the evening of Saturday, April 20 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

The Vasquez vs. Verdejo match was part of the preliminary bouts to the event headlined by WBO world champion Terence Crawford and challenger Amir Kahn.

25-years-old Verdejo, took the win with scorecards 97-93 X 2 and 98-92, even though the Puerto Rican did not shine and took more punishment than needed, he dominated the majority of the rounds against a Bryan Vasquez that threw very little punches in the first half of the fight and who didn’t bring anything new in his game.

Vasquez’ wife, world champion Hanna Gabriels, was working the corner and could be heard advising her husband to throw more punches and give it his all. Vasquez indeed threw more punches in the last rounds but it was too little of an effort to late in the match.

After the scorecards were read, Verdejo commented “It was an honor for me to get a big victory in front of my fans at the Madison Square Garden. I defeated a great fighter in Vásquez, I worked hard for his fight, the jab and the body punches were key”.

The Costa Rican added the fourth loss to his record which is currently of 37 wins and 4 losses.
