Limon will receive a total of 110 ships that will arrive at the Hernán Garrón terminal the cruise season 2018-2019 which begins August 23 with the arrival of the Sea Princess.

The Atlantic Zone Development and Port Administration Group (JAPDEVA) will receive over 224 thousand passengers throughout the entire season, this will have a positive impact in the economy and development of local tourism. It is estimated that in just one day cruise passengers spend and average of $80 in Limon.

“This year, controls have increased to assist security protocols in the attention of passengers in and out of the port area”, confirmed JAPDEVA.

In a joint effort with the Costa Rican Tourism Board (ICT), the number of businesses with “declaración turística” (tourism statement – a recognition granted by ICT to companies that comply with technical, economic and legal requirements), which elevate the quality standards of the Caribbean destinations offered to travelers in each cruise line.

Limon is promoted as a diverse, multiethnic and pluricultural destination, and is one of the routes in the Caribbean recommended by the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA); the evaluations of the previous season (2017-2018) position Limon as one of the preferred stops for cruise ships’ passengers.

Some of the cruise lines that will be arriving this year to the Caribbean province are: Carnival Cruises, Princess Cruise Lines, Celebrity Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, Pullam Tour, Holland America, Tui Cruisies and Norwergian Cruises.

JAPDEVA has the capacity to receive three cruises simultaneously.

“The Institutional Policy of JAPDEVA as Port and Development authority is to increase cruise ship tourism in Limon, particularly in the Hernán Garrón Terminal, this along with other projects we are looking into such as the development of a Marina”, commented Greivin Villegas, executive director of Japdeva.
