Costa Rican Filmmaker Hernan Jimenez Will Make English-Language Movie Debut

Hernán Jiménez is probably the best known and most successful stand-up comedian in Costa Rica, but that’s not all he is known for, he is also a writer, director, producer, and actor.

Jiménez’ last and most popular film so far, “About Us” (Entonces Nosotros) was released in 2016, it was well received by the Costa Rican audience and was selected to be the country’s entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards, it also received four nominations at the Milan International Film Festival, in the categories of Best Editing, Best Production Design, Best Music/Song, Best Movie.

Now, Jimenez is venturing into his next big project, “Elsewhere”, his first English-language film.

For this comedy-drama film Jimenez will be working with a cast that includes Ken Jeong (The Hangover 1,2) Parker Posey (Café Society, The House of Yes, Superman Returns), Beau Bridges (The Millers, Desperate Housewives, Code Black), Aden Young (Rectify), Jacki Weaver (Silver Linings Playbook) and Jackie Tohn (Netflix’ Glow).

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Elsewhere tells the story of Bruno (Young), who is hopelessly attached to the seaside cottage that he and his late wife built together. When his in-laws evict him, Bruno vows to get it back at any price.

The Costa Rican will work in the production with Todd Harris, who he worked with for About Us, along with J. Todd Harris (The Kids are all right).

The movie will be filmed in Vancouver, Canada, starting September 11 and it is expected to be released by 2018.

Jiménez commented on his Facebook page: “I am going to make this new movie -of which I’m totally in love- and these beautiful people will join me“.
