After spending a month trying to make an appointment at the local public health clinic (EBAIS, is the acronym in Spanish) in Santa Maria de Dota, Delvin Jarquín left a message at health center last Monday, reported Costa Rica’s Spanish daily CRHoy.com.
He left a sign and put a chain with a padlock around the clinic gate. Between his frustration and then a bad experience his wife and son had at the clinic, he wanted to let the clinic staff know he was upset.
“I’ve been trying to make an appointment for a month, and it turns out that there are never any appointments, and they tell us that only those who are called can go… A few days ago my wife went with my son to an appointment, and she told me that she was treated very poorly, so it seems to me that this is a bit beyond what one can endure, it’s already a lot. And it is not only this time, there are several others who are angry with this EBAIS,” said Jarquín to CRHoy.com
The resident of Santa Maria de Dota, who works as a construction supervisor, said he padlocked the gate so the staff would pay attention to his complaint and “give him an answer.”
“I decided to do something so that they can see that it is too much what is happening there … I put a padlock and a chain on the gate … with the intention of someone contacting me and explaining what is happening there,” said Jarquín.
According to him, the EBAIS sent his wife and son to the Emergency Clinic located in San Marcos de Tarrazú, and from there, they were sent back to the EBAIS. “We do not understand what is happening with the EBAIS in Santa Maria de Dota,” said Jarquín.
He said dis not rule out taking further action in the coming days if he did not receive contact from the clinic, said CRHoy.com.
