Costa Rican Public Police Forces have started to take action which guarantee public order and the security of the inhabitants as promised during a press conference Monday morning.

The Police intervened to eliminate a road block near the access to the Moin port to facilitate the access and exit of containers.

The operation left two people detained and three officers suffered injuries as a result of the rocks that were thrown by the protesters.

Officers also acted to get rid of the road blocks in the area of La Garita in Alajuela which were causing problems for the drivers of fuel tankers to load gas at the refinery (Recope).

The presence of police officers in Route 32 also allowed the free transit of people and merchandise to and from Limon.

Finally, this evening, authorities intervened in Barranca, Puntarenas, another area that had reported problems throughout all last week with protesters blocking the access of tankers at the Recope facilities.

In Limon and Barranca, the police had to resort to the use of tear gas.

The Association of Fuel Vendors celebrated the intervention of the Public Police Force.

Protesters complained of the “use of force” by the police and affirmed the movement will continue this Tuesday. They agreed to preliminary dialogue but refuse to stop the strike.
