Carlos Muñoz concluded his participation in third place of the US Open of Surfing and achieving a great position in the ranking.

Muñoz classified to the semifinals yesterday where he lost against Brazilian Tomas Hermes, the lack of good waves during their participation played an important role in the result; Tomas Hermes finished with a total score of 11.84 while “Cali” totaled 10.70 with only two waves, for several minutes Muñoz waited for a good wave to surpass his opponent but the wave never came.
Hermes went through to the final against USA’s own Kanoa Igarashi, and it was this last one that took the prize home with a score of 17.23 vs. 11.10 from Hermes.

This is the best performance the Costa Rican has had in four years, the last time he was able to classify to the semifinals was back in 2013. This achievement earned Carlos 6500 very important points, ranking him in the Top 25 of the WQS (World Qualifying Series); coming into the event “Cali” was in position 107.

“I have my mind set in the World Championship Tour, I have been preparing physically and mentally to achieve this. It is my dream and I am not about to abandon it. I am very excited, I accumulated valuable points, I represented my country proudly and now I am focused on achieving my goal and getting to the WCT 2018”, said Muñoz.

The Costa Rican will have his next participations in Spain then Portugal and Brazil, each of the events offers 6,000 points to the winner, Hawaii is next in the list where there’s another 10,000 point event.
