Costa Rican surfer Carlos Muñoz has the clear goal of classifying to the World Championship Tour and he is one step closer after winning today the second place at the Pantin Classic Galicia Pro in Spain, 3,000 points stop of the World Surfing League (WSL).

“Cali” as he is known, earned a total 2,250 points, which allowed him to jump from position 71 to 36 in the ranking.

“This is the result of the work I have been doing in the past months”, commented Muñoz, “The conditions in this final were hard, I tried to apply my game and I got this result which makes me happy. This is the beginning of the last part of this year, I started out positive and now I am motivated to continue with this rhythm. I will be back tomorrow in Costa Rica to continue training”, stated the athlete.

Muñoz faced Brazilian Weslley Dantas in the Pantin final; Muñoz scored a 4.10 vs. Dantas 9.54.

Cali, needed a positive result prior to bigger evens, such as the upcoming WQS 10,000 in Portugal, taking place September 24 through the 30th, where Muñoz and Noe Mar McGonagle (currently ranked in position 53) will be representing the country. The other two relevant events will take place in Hawaii, November 12 through the 24 and then in Sunset Beach, November 25 through December 6.
