Costa Rican surfer Leilani McGonagle classified to the semi-finals of VISSLA ISA World Junior Championship the which is being held in Japan and in the U18 category.

The Costa Rican added 10.4 points in round 4 taking the second place in her heat behind Kirra Pinkerton from the USA who managed 14.57 points

McGonagle will go up against Minori Kawai from Japan, Kirra Pinkerton from the USA and Neis Lartigue from France in the semi-final.

Joseph Méndez who had also made it to Round 4 of the U18 category didn’t have a good day and with only 4.43 points was left out of the competition.

Eva Woodland, Zulay Martínez and Coral Wiggins are still in competition in the repechage heats, getting this far in the competition has earned the Costa Rica Surfing Team important points, at this point with a total of 7620 and in the sixth place of the competition. USA, France, Australia, Japan and Hawaii are in the top 5 positions at this stage of the tournament that will conclude Saturday night (Costa Rica time).

When it comes to the male Costa Rican participants Malakai Martínez, Sebastián Mora and Joseph Méndez are still in competition in the repechage stages.

Out of the 306 competitors that started the competition now there are only 76.
