Costa Rican athlete Andrea Vargas classified this Friday to the 100-meter hurdles final of the North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletic Association NACAC Track & Field Championship that is being celebrated in Toronto, Canada.

Vargas finished second in the semifinal competition stopping the clock at 12:94, only behind USA’s Kendra Harrison who finished at 12:66. Harrison is the current holder of the world record with 12:20 and also has the best mark this season with 12:36.

Devynne Charlton from Bahamas arrived third with a time of 13:07.

The Costa Rican recently won the only gold medal for Costa Rica in the Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla, Colombia. The best time managed by Vargas has been 12:90.

The final will be disputed tomorrow with Harrison as the favorite of course due to her impressive speed.

Costa Rican Nery Brenes also classified to the final of the 400-meter competition winning his heat with a time of 46:55, the second place went to Jamaican Demish Gaye with a time of 46:62 and the third position was for Alonso Russell from Bahamas with 46:88. In the general table, USA’s Myles Pringle has the best mark with 46:28 followed by Bralon Taplin from Granada with 46:37.

The third Costa Rican that managed a place in the finals was Emmanuel Niño in 400-meters hurdles with a time of 50:14. The best mark 49:56 belongs to Jamaican Annsert Whyte.
