Costa Rica’s Supreme Electoral Tribunal released data regarding the 2018 presidential election.

In total there are 3,322,329 citizens registered to vote, representing 7.93% more than in 2014; half of these voters, 1.6 million, are between the ages of 18 and 39 years of age, as a matter of fact, 40% are under 34 years-old; 12.34% are senior citizens and 633 voters are over 100 years old.

The majority of the voters are women, 12,119 more than men.

There are a total of 61,668 foreigners that are naturalized as Costa Rican citizens and can cast their votes, 50.5% of these are natives from Nicaragua, and 13.1% from Colombia.

A total of 31,864 Costa Ricans that reside abroad have the possibility of voting in this election process, representing 151% more than in 2014.

138,096 people will be voting for the first time, all of them born between February 8, 1998 and February 4, 2000; however, 25,099 where left out of the electoral register because they didn’t put in a request for their ID.

A total of 6,612,794 ballots will be printed out, the company in charge of this is RR Donnelley S.A. the same company that printed them for the 2014 process. The printing cost is of approximately 171 million colones, (over US$300 thousand)

The majority of the voters are in the province of San José, followed by Alajuela; while Guanacaste has the least number of registered voters.
