If you are looking for something different to do this weekend, head over to Puntarenas and visit the Marino del Pacifico Park, which just added two brand new fish tanks to its exhibit. The park is located 500 meters East of the cruise pier.

The park which already offered a sample of close to 50 marine species, was able to include two big fish tanks and a devil ray tank thanks to the help of the Costa Rican Institute of Pacific Ports (INCOP) which financed the project of close to 281 million colones (around US$501,000.00).

The marine park hopes to attract more visitors with these additions and also educate them on the different species of fish and other marine animals that are in exhibit at this park, their importance and value and therefore promote their protection and conservation.

One of the fish tanks has a cylindrical shape and a volume of approximately 7 thousand liters. The second fish tank is rectangular and holds 7,200 liters of water. The main attraction will likely be the devil ray exhibit, a tank of approximately 32 cubic meters it’s at a height of only 70 centimeters from floor to wall so that visitors can have a better look of this wonderful animals.

“With this project we expect that the fish tanks show the public a little bit of the ecosystem we have right in front of us, in the Pacific Ocean, in our Costa Rican coasts; an affordable option for local and foreign tourists to known the abundant marine biodiversity of Costa rica”, stated Roger Ríos Duarte, Executive President of INCOP.

Aside from the aquariums you can also see crocodiles, sea turtles and some species of sharks at the marine park, which opens Tuesday through Sunday from 9 a.m to 4:30 p.m.
