Another eruption was registered this Tuesday evening at 7:08 p.m. local time by Poás, Volcano in Costa Rica, the activity only lasted 5 minutes but during this time the volcano provided a light show spitting out incandescent rocks as you can see in the following video:
The volcano continues to register frequent activity and it is cataloged as “highly unstable” by geologists and volcanologists. The eruptions registered, however, have been smaller and shorter in comparison to the activity it presented last week.
Experts are trying to determine if the source of heat responsible for the phreatic eruptions correspond to superficial magma and whether it is fresh or not.
Contrary to the Turrialba Volcano, Poás is not expelling ash, the eruptions are mostly water vapors due to the presence of the lake.
“The volcano right now is considered dangerous, and remains unstable. We can’t discard stronger eruptions, but it will depend on how the activity in the volcano continues to evolve”, explained volcanologist Mauricio Mora.
The eruptions can be seen from different parts of the country as its shown in the next video taken from the sector of Alto de las Palomas in Escazú.
Members of the National University’s Volcanology and Seismology Research Institute (OVSICORI)continue monitoring both volcanoes, this Tuesday they overflew the area and caught the following images:
The Poás Volcano National Park will remain closed and green alert remains for only five counties in Alajuela: Poás, Valverde Vega, Alajuela, Zarcero and Grecia.
