The Daniel Oduber International Airport in Liberia, Guanacaste received two new routes operated by United Airlines proceeding from the cities of San Francisco and Los Angeles, California, USA; it also received four flights from routes previously suspended due to the pandemic.

The inaugural flight arriving from Los Angeles arrived at Liberia on Friday at 15:37 hours, while the flight from San Francisco arrived Saturday at 20:17.

The flights that have resumed operations originate from Amsterdam (flying Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays), Los Angeles via Delta Airlines, Calgary via West Jet, and Chicago via United Airlines.

The resuming of these flights as well as the new routes bring hope to the tourism sector and the economy of the coastal and rural communities that depend on this industry.

“Starting 2021 with the announcement of two new flights is a great achievement since it connects us directly to the cities of San Francisco and Los Angeles, considered strategic areas for the attraction of tourism. We maintain the implementation of strict sanitary protocols that guarantee the safe transit of passengers and collaborators,” commented César Jaramillo, General Manager of CORIPORT concessionary of the international airport.

According to studies carried out by the Costa Rican Tourism Board (ICT), San Francisco and Los Angeles take second and third place in the “Top 3” of the great cities or metropolitan areas of the USA that have the largest concentration of tourists interested in traveling to Costa Rica.
