The autopsy report of the brutal murder of CIMA Hospital doctor of anesthesiology, Dra. Maria Luisa Cedeno, was released today (Tuesday Aug 8th 2020), revealing the violent attack she received prior to being killed by one or more person on July 20th. The cause of death is listed as a fatal blow to the back of the neck, but she suffered blows and stab wounds – even bites – to her body prior to her death. Three men are being held in connection with this homicide, including the well-known innkeeper/owner of La Mansion Inn of Quepos, Harry Bodaan. Cedeno was killed in her room at La Mansion Inn.

The Forensic Lab of the OIJ reported on July 25th the extent of Dra. Cedeno’s wounds. There were blows to her cheeks, lips, arms, thorax, many of them consistent with someone fighting for their life. All of her fingernails were broken. There were bite marks on her right cheek, right forearm, and on her chest.

Forensic Doctors of Pathology Silvia Fernandez and Jorge Aguilar reported strong evidence that before the fatal blow to her neck, attempts were made to either strangle or smother her. There were multiple wounds and contusions to her neck muscles and ligaments, and corresponding bruising to the neck area. Further signs of asphyxiation include ocular congestion, lung congestion, and renal and cerebral bleeding. Her fingers and toes indicated she was without oxygen for some time. Her attack was vicious, a seeming overkill of someone as petite as she was.

The autopsy confirms that the Doctor was raped before her death. There were bruises and contusions in and around her vaginal area. Every aspect of her attack was brutal. She died sometime between 4:48AM and 12:48PM, when housekeeping found her lifeless body, wrapped in a bloody sheet, on the floor of her hotel room.

In addition to the hotel owner Bodaan, a male stripper/exotic dancer and a systems analyst who were also staying at the hotel, have been given Preventive Detention for the alleged homicide. Further confounding investigators in this case is that the three accused murderers are rumored to be gay.
