SIGN UP FOR OUR The “Plaza de la Cultura” (Culture Plaza) in the Central Avenue of San José will reopen on Monday, November 14 after 7 months.
The famous plaza in downtown San Jose was closed back in April of this year, with the purpose of remodeling the area and doing maintenance work to some infrastructure in the underground building where the Central Bank Museums are located.
The construction worked involved an investment of close to $3 million USD, and some of the work included: new waterproof and drainage systems to avoid filtration and floods, the installation of new ramps, better lighting, safety signage for blind people, the installation of a new fountain and the high quality pavement.
Kinetic Rainbow:
National Children Hospital new front design. Kinetic Rainbow
The front of Costa Rica’s Children Hospital will change from the basic grey to a “kinetic rainbow”.
This was the winning project of the international competition “Color Hospital”, which had the goal of changing the face of the National Children Hospital; the competition received more than 80 proposals from 18 countries.
“Kinetic Rainbow” is the work of Venezuelan architect Elena Alvarez who resides in London, England.
The idea of the project was to transform the looks of the front of the hospital making it more appealing to the kids that receive attention and care in this medical center.
The hospital will now start a campaign to raise the necessary funds to carry out the project.
Your City, Your Canvas
Design selected to be painted in President Hotel in San Jose, Costa Rica
“Your City, Your Canvas” is the cultural project that expects to bring more visibility to several metropolitan spaces through the use of urban art.
The President Hotel, located in the corner of 7th street and Central Avenue, is the 450 square meter canvas where Costa Rican artist Sergio Guillen will see his work “Buscando al gato” (Searching for the cat) will be painted.
It is expected that the work will take between 3-4 weeks to be completed.
A second place was awarded to artist Fabrizio Duran with the work: “Chaotic Cumulus of History, Architecture and Culture”, his work will be displayed in a space inside the President Hotel.
