On Monday morning, the lifeless body of a 60-year old man was found in the guest room of a small inn located in Tamarindo Beach, province of Guanacaste. The man has been identified as Erasmo Antonio Urbina, a foreigner from Nicaragua who came to Costa Rica years ago to work as a custodian and security guard.

The housekeeper who found the body of Mr. Urbina explained that she had detected an unusual smell at the Kaptur Arte gallery and lodge in Tamarindo Beach over the weekend. Mr. Urbina worked as a security guard at the gallery, which is well-known among residents of this upscale beach town. The name “Kaptur Arte” is a playful take on the expression “to captivate you,” and the gallery specializes in artful home decorations.

According to journalist Gerin Portilla of daily tabloid Diario Extra, Mr. Urbina sometimes stayed overnight at the inn, which is normally booked by tourists visiting the Gold Coast beaches of Guanacaste. Although guests typically stay in the floor above the gallery, Mr. Urbina sometimes spent the night in a small room located in the first floor; this is where the housekeeper found him, awkwardly sprawled on the floor and decomposing.

Red Cross paramedics who arrived on the scene explained that Mr. Urbina appeared to have passed a few days ago; hence the advanced stage of putrefaction. For this reason, a possible motive of death could not be formulated at the time. Forensic agents from the regional Office of Judicial Investigations (Spanish initials: OIJ) arrived to transport the body to the medical examiner.

Friends of the dearly departed Mr. Urbina explained that he was often called “Antonio Banderas” due to his personality and his playful impersonations of the famous Spanish actor.
