Costa Rica’s Ministry of Transportation and Public Works announced that repairs have been made to the damaged ferry dock in Paquera on the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula, thus allowing service to resume between Puntarenas and Paquera on Tuesday, September 5.

The service, which is used by locals and tourists alike to connect to Puntarenas and points beyond, was suspended August 15 when part of the docking ramp collapsed after a ferry apparently knocked into a support.

According to information from the Ministry’s Maritime Port Division, the initial repair work was completed Sunday, September 3 after which several successful test dockings were taken in which loading and unloading were conducted in the presence of engineers.

The first trip from Puntarenas-Paquera commences tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 5 a.m.

The first trip from Paquera – Puntarenas will be at 5:30 a.m.

Bids are still being received to take on some additional non-essential repairs to the
Paquera dock, said the ministry.
