Finca Austria, Nosara Nicoya’s team defeated Siquirrres 2-0 at the Chorotega Stadium in Guanacaste and ensured the LINAFA Championship and a free pass to the League of Ascent which could lead them to 2^nd and then 1^st division of Costa Rican Soccer.

A parade with “cimarronas” and lots of Caribbean flavor to support both teams gave the match its starting tune in spite of the sweltering heat.  It was a game where no one lacked courage. Both teams fought for keeping the ball and making the maximum effort to play with the cards they were dealt as both teams tried to overcome their respective defenses.

During the match, Siquirreña lost Jeison Villalobos after being sanctioned with a red card. Angilo Rodríguez from Finca Austria, defined the joust by scoring the 2-0 that would hand them the championship cup.

The name Playa Nosara, immediately brings up memories of Sandy beaches, pristine water and the best surfing conditions in the country, however, for many soccer fans, Nosara may be the biggest success story seen in National Soccer in many years.

Located in Nicoya, in the province of Guanacaste, Nosara’s population is not more than 6000 inhabitants and their sources of income come from tourism thanks to the development of many hotels, bars, restaurants and surfing schools as well as from  fishing, rice farming (mechanized) and livestock.

Finca Austria Nosara FC is the community’s soccer team directed with the help of Jesus Garcia, Marvin Solano, a former player for the Barrio Mexico team and created by a former professional soccer player from Austria, who everyone knows by “Miguel” but whose real name is Michael Von Muysen. He came to Costa Rica, fell in love with it, bought a ranch and decided he would gather the support of the community to create a soccer team project.

The Finca Austria team that played during the Championship match was composed of Julio Gutiérrez, Bryan Jiménez, José Espinoza, Reiner Juárez, Geiner Jiménez, Carlos Pérez, Maikel Ruíz, Luis Dinarte, José Acosta, Felipe Ching, Juan Molina and Jesús García as Head coach.

Some of its most colorful members include Harry Matarrita “The Rasta” a father of two who works at a car shop and one of the most valuable members of this team. He’s been playing soccer for most of his life.

After the match ended, the winning team celebrated at the stadium and took hundreds of photos which they’ve uploaded to their Facebook page, the Away team made their way home in a bustling caravan to Nosara to finish with a small visit to the Catholic church and a  great dinner at Rancho Tico.
