Bliss Costa RicaCerveceria Costa Rica, maker of iconic beer brands such as Imperial and Pilsen, recently released a new alcoholic beverage aimed at young adults. Bliss, an eight percent proof drink with flavors based on tropical fruits, hit the market in on May 18th, but lukewarm marketing efforts have not succeeded in making the brand known in Costa Rica.According to a report filed by Cristina Fallas Villalobos of business weekly El Financiero, Cerveceria Costa Rica will now try its marketing luck with Bliss by introducing it to Nicaragua. To this effect, Ms. Fallas quoted Gisela Sanchez, who is in charge of corporate communications at the giant brewery:

We are entering the market in Nicaragua since we have already identified a good opportunity in the wine cooler and flavored alcoholic beverage segment over there. We are proud to introduce an innovative product of excellent quality.

The slogan being used to promote Bliss is “what color are you today?” The beverage comes in three versions: Lime Mix, Peach Mix and Happy Mix (strawberry, watermelon, lime, and guayaba). The alcohol content in each bottle of Bliss is four percent. The initial shipment of Bliss bound for Nicaragua will consist of more than 130,000 bottles. The move is part of an ongoing exploration of foreign markets by Cerveceria Costa Rica and its parent company, Florida Ice & Farm Co. (FIFCO)Earlier this year, Cerveceria Costa Rica announced its first incursion into Switzerland with national beer brand Imperial, which is already well-established in the United States. More than 17,000 bottles of Imperial were distributed in bars and restaurants across Switzerland to test the market.FIFCO already owns a portfolio of beer brands in North America, including the exclusive rights to distribute the traditional Canadian beer Labbatt Blue in the U.S.
