Geothermal Project Las Pailas II is currently in an intense testing phase to be included into the National Electric System (SEN) and generate sustainable electricity before the conclusion of the first semester of 2019, by the end of November 2018 its construction advance was of over 93%.

¨This final lap has the objective of putting to work the equipment and the systems of the geothermal field, the machine room and the transmission works¨, explains the press release.

Las Pailas II is located in Liberia, it will have 55 megawatts of installed capacity ,that will ensure the curve base of the electricity demand.

¨We completed the work of the two collectors that carry the geothermal vapor to the turbines in the machine room. This guarantees the cleanliness of the pipes and ensures that the glow has the required conditions according to the design¨

Las Pailas II will allow Costa Rica to consolidate its continental leadership in electricity generation from volcanic vapor. It will be the seventh plan of its type in the country, which will allow SEN to add 262 megawatts of installed geothermal capacity the third in importance in America, after the United States and Mexico.

The 21 wells of Las Pailas II are 100% directional, the boreholes are not vertical but diagonal and they have an average depth of 2,000 meters. The works at this plant began in April 2013.

Las Pailas II, will be the most modern geothermal plant in Central America and the Caribbean.
