Four gunmen posing as customers on Friday conducted a brazen armed robbery during business hours of a jewelry store located in the Multiplaza shopping center in Escazu.

 

According to Costa Rica’s Ministry of Public Security (MSP), the four gunmen entered the Eurochronos store, a retailer of high-end watches and jewelry around 5:30 p.m. on Friday, initially posing as customers before brandishing firearms and subduing the store’s manager and three employees.

 

The gunmen then spent an incredible 25 minutes looting the store, ultimately making off with some US $350,000 worth of high-end merchandise, according to initial estimates.

 

The armed men also made off with the recorder for the store’s security cameras, according to authorities, who are attempting to determine if the suspects’ image may have also been captured by Multiplaza security cameras.

 

Store employees told police that the men were of dark complexion, heavy build and spoke with foreign accents.

 

The suspects remained at large Sunday morning.
