Japanese multinational Hitachi has developed an artificial intelligence system to measure levels of happiness in individuals engaged in certain tasks and to offer recommendations to boost efficiency.

The company hopes to market the technology this year, Hitachi had said in a statement.

Around 600 employees of Hitachi will be part of the trial, which will be conducted by the company, to test the technology that seeks to improve a sense of well-being in workers.

The participants will wear devices with the artificial intelligence technology that will record a variety of activities such as standing, sitting and talking and that is capable of remembering the people with whom they interacted and the frequency of the interactions.

The software will use those patterns to calculate the users’ level of happiness and analyze data on a monthly basis to determine which actions made them happier.

Based on this analysis, the program will send suggestions to users on their mobile phones to carry out certain tasks at a specific time of the day or talk to a certain person, according to a company statement.

The company hopes the technology will help determine to what extent altering the behavior of employees can improve their productivity and sense of well-being. EFE
