The second Hard Rock Cafe in Costa Rica will be located in Guanacaste, specifically in Playas del Coco, and it is expected to open later this year. Such was the news reported by Cristina Fallas Villalobos of business weekly El Financiero.

 

The report from El Financiero quotes Mr. Gustavo Araya, president of the iconic Hard Rock franchise in Costa Rica. Mr. Araya explained:

 

“The layout design has been approved by the franchisor. We are retaining the builder today so that we can break ground in a week; this is a redesign job that we expect will be ready in the latter half of the year.”

 

The new Hard Rock Cafe in Costa Rica will be different than the one already operating in the Wynhdam Herradura Hotel, located in San Antonio de Belen, not far from Downtown San Jose. The design will include architectural and interior design elements that evoke the coastal community of Playas del Coco, one of the Gold Coast beaches of Guanacaste.

 

The existing two-story building measures 650 square meters (about 6997 square feet), and will boast a capacity to serve 170 revelers. One of the floors will serve as a storage facility and administrative office.

 

The Hard Rock Cafe in Guanacaste was supposed to open last year. As previously reported by The Costa Rica Star in 2013:

 

According to Gustavo Araya, a partner of the Hard Rock Cafe franchise in Costa Rica, the possibility of opening one of the firm’s restaurants in Guanacaste in 2014 is being studied.

 

Araya said the establishment would open in Playas del Coco, or failing that, in Tamarindo, but that at this time the project is in a study phase.

 

This project will be developed following certain style guidelines seen in Hard Rock Cafes located in Acapulco, Miami, and the Balearic Island of Ibiza.
