The Iraqi forces retook control over Al-Mualimin neighborhood of Fallujah from the Islamic State, or IS, group and advanced to al-Golan, the last IS stronghold in Fallujah, Iraqi joint command said in a statement on Saturday.

According to the statement, the troops managed on Saturday to completely liberate Al-Mualimin neighborhood in the city of Fallujah, 50 kilometers (31 miles) west of Baghdad.

The note added that the Iraqi forces killed several IS terrorists and damaged military equipment.

Meanwhile, General Shaker Jawdat, Iraq’s federal police chief, said that units from the police advanced in al-Golan with the support of Iraqi army aviation and artillery.

He added that the forces liberated several parts of al-Golan and killed IS commander, Abu Obeida al-Ansari.

Lieutenant General Abdul Wahab al-Saidi, commander of the liberation operations of Fallujah, said this week that 85 percent of the Iraqi city now is under the control of Iraqi forces.
