The Labor Unions in the education sector are the only ones that remain on strike since September 10 protesting the fiscal plan. They will meet this Monday to evaluate their options after the resolution of the Constitutional Chamber which gives green light to congress to vote the fiscal reform in second debate.

After more than two months of strike, time in which they have continued to receive their salary, the education sector needs to consider their options; recently the court annulled the decision of illegality of this strike and sent back the process to the Labor Court for a new analysis.

The resolution of the Constitutional Chamber confirms that the fiscal reform does not require a minimum of 38 votes to be approved, but instead only qualified majority (29 votes), the fiscal reform was approved in first debate with 35 votes, and therefore it is expected that it will be approved in second debate with no problem before the year ends.

Representatives of the different labor unions have stated they respect the position of the Constitutional Chamber but of course they don’t agree with it.

The different labor unions informed they will be holding meetings with their bases and legal advisers to determine what is the next step; this while they await the resolution of the labor court regarding the legality or illegality of the movement.
