Experts from Latin America and the Caribbean will meet in Panama from October 3 to 5 to analyze policies and mechanisms to promote the decrease of gases harming the ozone layer.

The meeting, promoted by the UN Program for the Environment, includes issues such as the enforcement and ratification of the Amendments of the Montreal Protocol, the most successful and most recognized international agreement in the environmental sector.

The agenda of the so-called Joint Meeting of the OzoneAction Networks of Mexico, Central America, South America and the Caribbean also includes debates on measures to freeze consumption of hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) in 2013 and achieve a 10 percent reduction by 2015.

Other topics such as the analysis of the consumption of HCFCs in countries of the region, recovery and recycling, and updated reports on recovery, regeneration, reuse and elimination of refrigerants will also be discussed at the meeting.
