The Costa Rican-North American Cultural Center will offer a course on the life and work of Spanish painter Francisco Goya (1746-1828) better known for his detailed engravings and the contemporary language of his paintings.

Classes will be imparted by art historian Flor Gallardo in four sessions every Friday in May, beginning May 5th and through May 26th, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.

These sessions are complimentary to the program Exhibition on Screen, which consists of several documentary style films that tell the stories of famous painters and that are created in high quality exclusively for movie theaters around the world. Here in Costa Rica the films are shown at the Magaly Movie Theater in Barrio La California.

The 90-minute long film Goya: Visions of Flesh and Blood will be shown on Tuesday, May 16 at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday May 21st, at 2:30 p.m. and it reconstructs the life of Spain’s most regarded painter who was influenced by Rembrandt and Velázquez.

The next films of Exhibition on Screen will be Michelangelo: Love and Death which will air in June; Leonardo is scheduled for July and The Artist’s Garden: American Impressionism will be shown in August. Tickets can be purchased online at cinemagaly.com

The different films of Exhibition on Screen have been declared of public interest by the Costa Rican Ministry of Culture.
