“As You Like It” by Shakespeare – Costa Rica National Theater June 9-10

Believed to have been written in 1599 “As You Like It” is one of William Shakespeare’s most famous romantic comedies and the Georgian theater group Marjanishvili will be presenting its version at the Costa Rica’s National Theater in association with Teatro Espressivo.

This show is part of “The Best of the World 2017” series of presentations, organized by Espressivo Theater. This rendition of “As You Like It” by Marjanishvili Theater has been a great success in its presentations in different countries such as India, Turkey, England, Rumania, Poland, Germany, Israel, China, Rusia, among others, and was recognized as the best staging in the Globe to Globe Shakespeare Festival 2012 in London.

“As You Like It” is a play that takes place in a location of France called the Fores of Arden, and it follows heroine Rosalind “as she flees persecution in her uncle’s court, accompanied by her cousin Celia to find safety and eventually love”. It explores different love stories through the eyes of fun characters that struggle, fight, disguise, fall in love, sing and dance.

The Marjanishvili Theater group is originally from Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia (Eastern Europe), it is one of the most recognized theaters in this country, which has one of the strongest theater cultures in the world. Marjanishvili has worked in over 50 productions, both classic and modern plays.

“As You Like It” will be shown at the National Theater in San José, Friday, June 9 and Saturday, June 10 at 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online at espressivo.cr and have a cost of between 15,000.00 – 40,000.00 colones ($27-$72 USD).
