US citizens Luda and Roma Gimelfarb have spent the last nine years living the nightmare of every parent; their son David Gimelfarb went missing in Costa Rica in 2009 and to this date nothing is known of what may have happened to him.

The last day someone saw David Gimelfarb was August 11, 2009, when he set out for a hike to Rincón de La Vieja National Park in Guanacaste; he never came back. All his belongings were found at his hotel room. He was 28 years old back then.

David’s parents still have hope to find some information about their son, they come each year to Costa Rica to meet with local authorities. “We firmly believe David is alive and needs help and for this reason we need to find him. For this we need the help of Costa Ricans and their authorities”, commented Roma Gimelfarb in an interview with daily news website CRHoy.com.

Roma Gimelfarb explained that the only clue they’ve had was a photo of David sent to them five years ago; as well as phone calls and emails asking for money in exchange for information, however, the Judiciary Investigative Police had concluded the calls the family was getting were made from La Reforma prison. The family has been offering a reward of $100,000.00 for the person who provides them with information leading to finding their son.

The Gimelfarb couple also opened a Facebook page: Help Find David Gimerlfarb with the hopes that someone recognizes their son and they get information on what happened.

David’s passport, cell phone, and $600 dollars as well as his personal belongings were found in his hotel room. The rental car he was driving was in the parking lot of the Park. There were no signs of foul play or anything suspicious at the hotel or parking lot. The young man was working on his doctorate degree at Adler School of Professional Psychology in Chicago, Illinois, and traveled to Costa Rica on his summer break arriving August 9, he disappeared just two days later.
