The Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC) is currently taking place in San Jose. Yesterday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Republic of Korea held a press briefing on this matter:

Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se will attend the seventh Foreign Ministers’ Meeting of the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC), which will take place in San Jose, Costa Rica, on August 21.

The meeting will cover various ways to step up substantive cooperation between the two regions. On the sidelines of the multilateral meeting, the Foreign Minister will meet bilaterally with his counterparts from a number of countries, including Foreign Minister Manuel Gonzales of Costa Rica.

Prior to the FEALAC meeting, Minister Yun will visit Panama from August 18 through 20 to pay a courtesy call on President Juan Varela and hold a meeting with Vice President and Foreign Minister Isabel Saint Malo.

On Tuesday, August 18^th, a bilateral meeting between the chairpersons of this forum took place. The Foreign Ministers of Thailand and Costa Rica confirmed the agenda, and the coordination meeting took place afterward between representatives from Costa Rica, Thailand, Argentina, Brazil, China, Colombia, Ecuador, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam.

Yesterday, a seminary on agriculture, socio-political cooperation and sustainable development was held, and a coffee-cupping event was the highlight since coffee lovers from prosperous Asian nations are very interested in roasts from Costa Rica. In the afternoon, the topic of youth, culture and sports was discussed, followed by a meeting on science and technology.

Today, the FEALAC representatives will hold an important meeting with guests from financial institutions of Asian and Latin American nations. The topics to be discussed include financing and the issue of major foreign currencies, such as the yuan, flowing between the two regions. Bilateral meetings may take place to discuss issues such as tourism as time permits.

Plenary sessions will take place tomorrow before the farewell ceremony. This particular forum has been very active in recent years.
