Bogota, Apr 24 (EFE).– Colombian and U.S. authorities seized 1,850 kilograms of cocaine in two operations conducted in Guatemalan and Salvadoran waters, arresting four Ecuadorians and two Colombians, Bogota authorities reported Sunday.

The first anti-drug operation was carried out in Guatemalan waters by Colombia’s Dijin and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, supported by the U.S. Coast Guard. A fastboat carrying 1,010 kg of cocaine was intercepted by law enforcement authorities, the Colombian police said in a statement.

Three Ecuadorians on board the boat, which had set out from southwestern Colombia heading for Central America, were arrested.

The second operation, conducted 406 nautical miles off El Salvador’s coast, netted 840 kg of cocaine on board a boat crewed by two Colombians and an Ecuadorian.

This shipment was being sent by drug traffickers from Colombia’s Pacific coast to Central America, from where it was to be shipped to the United States on board fastboats and semi-submersibles.

The arrested men were turned over to Salvadoran authorities. EFE
