An alert given by the U.S. Coast Guard Service to the Costa Rican Ministry of Public Security thanks to the agreement on joint patrolling allowed Costa Rican police authorities to intercept a vessel 80 nautical miles from Quepos, Puntarenas carrying 2000 packages of cocaine.

The police operation began out at sea on Wednesday, August 1st, and concluded this Thursday, August 2nd, when the ship was brought to land by the National Coast Guard Service and the Drug Control Police.

Aboard the ship were three Colombian man of last names: Carrero, 59 years-old; Aguirre, age 43; and Castro 47 years-old.

The ship was carrying a total of 2000 packages of cocaine, each weighing over 1 kilogram. This brings the total of cocaine seized so far this year to 17 thousand 864 kilograms; out of which, 6 thousand 679 were seized in the last 10 days in waters of the Pacific.
