The Costa Rican movie theater chain CCM Cinemas plans to open four movie screens in Tamarindo Beach before the end of 2015. According to a news report filed by Marcos Ureña of Guanacaste online news site PrimeroEnNoticias.com, the national chain estimates that this project will cost $4 million.

At this time, CCM Cinemas is not certain exactly where in Tamarindo Beach they will place their new movie halls. The company is looking at different options, and they want to attract various types of film lovers, from the affluent to the working class. To this effect, the chain may offer various movie ticket prices at different venues; for example, one movie hall may be geared towards the sizable expat population in Tamarindo Beach, thereby offering more comfortable seats, air conditioning, top Hollywood hits in their original language, ample parking, security guards, and higher ticket prices. The idea would be to attract VIP movie goers such as NBA star Kobe Bryant, who visited a Playa Hermosa movie theater with his family earlier this year.

Other movie halls in Tamarindo Beach may cater to working-class residents and visitors, and the films may be dubbed or subtitled, or they may be on their second-run, or they may be original Spanish and Latin American productions offered at lower ticket prices.

CCM Cinemas opened for business shortly after Costa Rica abolished her military forces. Currently, CCM Cinemas has two major movie theaters in the Central Valley: One in San Pedro and the other at Plaza Mayor. The company also has two very profitable theaters in Ciudad Quesada and San Ramon, and one inside the Mall in Liberia. Once the Tamarindo Beach theaters are completed, CCM Cinemas will have a significant hold on the Guanacaste movie market.

Further expansion plans for this chain in Costa Rica include the Ocean Mall in Puntarenas and the town of Belen in the province of Heredia, not far from Santa Ana and San Jose. CCM Cinemas is known for offering more elaborate movie theater food fare than just popcorn; other items include french fries, hot dogs, burgers, chicken nuggets, chicken wings, and baked nachos. The chain also organizes birthday parties for children.
