Costa Rica has 577 cases of Covid-19 confirmed as of Saturday March 11th, the government has announced it will be placing additional restrictions on vehicular traffic until April 30.

Beginning on April 13, there will be a complete nighttime restriction from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. every day.

When it comes to daytime restrictions, during the weekdays the restriction will be from 5 a.m. and 7 p.m., vehicles will be restricted by license plate numbers following the usual order that vehicular restrictions have, meaning:

Monday: Cars with plate number ending on 1 & 2 (are restricted)
Tuesday: Cars with plate number ending on 3 & 4 (are restricted)
Wednesday: Cars with plate number ending on 5 & 6 (are restricted)
Thursday: Cars with plate number ending on 7 & 8 (are restricted)
Friday: Cars with plate number ending on 9 & 0 (are restricted)

Weekends will see complete restrictions except for going to supermarkets, pharmacies, and health centers, and again will be limited by license plate numbers in this case, plates ending on an even number (0,2,4,6,8) are restricted on Saturday while cars with plates ending on odd numbers (1,3,5,7,9) are restricted for transit on Sunday.

Public transportation will resume on Monday April 13 and will operate from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.

Only certain essential services and night shift workers are exempt from the restrictions; drivers not complying with the restrictions are being heavily fined.

In the case of vehicles (cars or motorcycles) used for working purposes, these are exempt from the restriction as long as they are properly identified; also, workers from the private or public sector that need to transit to and from their job can do so as long as they carry with them a letter from their employer giving the details of their route and schedule.

Commercial establishments that provide attention to the public can only operate from 5 a.m. through 7 p.m. during weekdays and at a 50 % maximum of their capacity, during weekends these businesses must remain closed.

Bars, dance clubs, theaters, movie theaters must remain closed.

Ferry services will operate only twice a day.

Borders have also been extended and will remain closed through April 30.
