Managua, Aug 22 (EFE). – Nicaragua will be the meeting place for the 7th Space Conference of the Americas 2015, or CEA, which is expected to attract more than 200 participants to exchange information and experiences about satellites and other technologies, the authorities said.

During the CEA, to be held Nov. 17-19 in Managua, there will be four great areas of discussion: education, science & technology, natural resources & the environment, specific applications, and international cooperation.

In that sense, the coordinator of the scientific committee of the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua, or UNAN, in Managua, Dionisio Rodriguez, told a press conference that among the projects of the conference will be a review of international cooperation on space and the legal regulatory framework for activities beyond planet Earth.

Rodriguez noted that the conference will evaluate the progress of said legal framework, its challenges and outlook, in order to define which strategies to follow in the use of space for peaceful purposes.

“Being able to discuss national and interregional programs for the future,” was another of the objectives that Rodriguez mentioned.

He also said that Nicaragua is thinking of creating a space museum as a way of spreading knowledge of the subject among the general population.

Rodriguez added that the country hopes to obtain experience from this meeting that will be useful for establishing a future Nicaraguan space agency.

For his part, Public Policy Secretary Paul Oquist said that this conference is very opportune for Nicaragua as a way of raising national awareness about how space studies and enterprises can boost national development.

The head of the National Council of Universities, or CNU, Telemaco Talavera, stressed the importance of promoting world peace through cyberspace, and of dealing with such subjects as how to work toward cybersecurity and the governability of space. EFE
