A criminal division judge in the municipality of Carazo, located about 70 kilometers southwest of Managua, has named four suspects in the murder of Canadian expat Rajan Deedar Gill, who was found beaten to death in his country home near La Boquita in Nicaragua.

According to a November 30th wire report by Agencia EFE, police officers found the victim next to Marbely del Socorro Palma Cortez, a 27-year old prostitute who was bound and gagged in the living room of the home in La Boquita Beach. Ms. Palma is one of the murder suspects; the other two have been identified as José Faustino Vanegas Cruz, César Gamaliel Solano, and José Amílcar Vanegas Cruz, also known as Chilongo. The former two suspects are in custody while the latter two are at large.

According to a news report filed by Mynor Garcia of Nicaraguan newspaper La Prensa, Judge Carol Urbina Medrano issued a warrant for the arrest of the two suspects on the run. It is believed that more than one of the suspects may have been engaged in a sexual relationship with Ms. Palma, who visited Mr. Gill a couple of times a week to render remunerated sexual services.

A pick-up truck belonging to Mr. Gill was stolen from his country home. Municipal police officers found a smashed mobile phone on the road leading out of the villa; they believe the device belonged to Ms. Cortez, who is currently in custody and was denied pretrial release as she is believed to have conspired to murder Mr. Gill.

Online news daily NuevaYa.com reported some details about the criminal charges declared during the preliminary hearing. It seems that Ms. Palma and Mr. Vanegas are blaming each other and the two suspects at large; nonetheless, prosecutors believe that Mr. Vanegas gave Ms. Palma two soporifics that she slipped into a glass of wine and offered to Mr. Gill.

Apparently, the incapacitating cocktail did not work as planned; Mr. Gill awakened to find the suspects carting away his belongings into his truck. The suspects delivered two deadly blows with a fire extinguisher before driving away with two strongboxes, a television, a computer, a boombox, an electronic keyboard, a guitar, a coffeemaker, and a drill.

The truck and the loot were located next to a cookie factory a few kilometers away, where suspects clumsily attempted to hide the stolen vehicle and cargo.
