Nicaraguan college students are looking into the possibility of continuing their studies in the University of Costa Rica (UCR) to avoid having their careers interrupted as a consequence of the crisis in their country.

So far ten students have been accepted by the UCR through the figure of student exchanges or student mobility, but another 45 requests have been received by the Office of International Affairs and Foreign Cooperation.

The University will have to respond to each request prior to August 13th, date in which the second semester begins.

The admitted students are getting a temporary permit to attend classes for a semester, a year or even a year and a half, they have to pay their tuition and comply with other requirements as all other students.

The students will have to validate the subjects they take in Costa Rica when their temporary permit is over.

Every year the University of Costa Rica receives requests from only a couple of students from Nicaragua applying to the exchange or mobility project, this year the requests added over 55.

The crisis in Nicaragua erupted in April 18 and has already claimed the lives of over 300 people, and left thousands injured.

INCAE Business School announced a few weeks back that they had to move their students from the Nicaraguan campus to their location in Costa Rica to guarantee their security. The administrative offices remain operational in Nicaragua, but all classes will be imparted in Costa Rica.
