Legendary rock band Guns N’ Roses has officially announced its Latin American reunion tour, and the band’s website lists Costa Rica as its final stop.

Guns N’ Roses fans from Costa Rica were excited to find the Chinese-donated National Stadium, located in La Sabana Metropolitan Park, listed for a concert appearance on November 26th, following a few dates in Brazil.

It is important to note that although the band may have penciled Costa Rica for a tour date, a national promoter has yet to come forward to announce that it will handle the concert and the tickets. Such announcement will hopefully be forthcoming.

Lead singer Axl Rose has been trying to come to Costa Rica since 2010, but the logistics of the “Not In This Lifetime Tour” did not properly align until now.

As reported by The Costa Rica Star in 2012, bass player Duff McKagan and fellow rock icon Mike McCready, who plays guitar for Seattle-based grunge icons Pearl Jam, have a little bit of Costa Rica history in them.

Mr. McKagan grew up in Seattle and knew Mr. McCready from the vibrant rock scene that the Emerald City has always been known for. The former GN’R bass player has contributed a column for the Seattle Weekly, and in a past article he described his friendship with Mr. McCready and a trip they made to Costa Rica.

It all started years ago, when the McKagan and McCready families got together with friends from California after Christmas; they decided to pack their bags and come to Costa Rica to “bring rock and roll to Central America,” which meant playing at the then-new Luxe Lounge in Escazu.

As a joke, the Seattle friends suggested to their California friends that they should get their families together on a rock vacation to Costa Rica that would include the reunion of the bands Shadow and Loaded. The latter band is one of Mr. McKagan’s first projects post-GN’R, after he returned to Seattle from Los Angeles, while the former is McCready’s band from his high school days.

Mr. McKagan initially had some reservations about the Shadow and Loaded reunion tour in Costa Rica. As he explained in his article:

“The rock shows were risky. I mean, would anyone show up? Maybe they knew of Pearl Jam or GNR or Velvet Revolver, but that rarely equates to someone parting with hard-earned dough to see “some guy from THAT band.”

The reunions took place at the Luxe Lounge with lines around the block and sold-out shows on consecutive nights. Afterwards, the visiting families enjoyed time in Manuel Antonio. A Tico musician who had the honor of opening for Loaded and Shadow explained that he was amazed at how friendly and humble these two rock legends really are.
