The Ministry of Security organized a police operation on Friday involving over 600 officers in different areas of the country with the purpose of patrolling the streets and preventing crimes such as small-scale drug trafficking.
“From the analysis of criminality in the country we have established that the hours between 4 p.m. and midnight there is a peak in the number of incidents reported, particularly on Fridays. Based on this, we have given instructions to all police stations in the country to generate an operation in their areas and attack small-scale drug trafficking”, explained Soto.
Members of Traffic Police, Migration Police, Coast Guard, Municipal Police, Fiscal Control Police and the Judiciary Investigative Police (OIJ) also took part of this operation alongside Fuerza Publica; the actions focused in areas such as Pavas, Alajuelita, San Sebastian, Sagrada Familia in San Jose as well as other problematic areas in the different provinces.
As a result of the operation the police rescued two people that were allegedly held captive, one in Limon and another one in Sabanilla. There were also 38 people detained, 9 firearms seized, 24 cars and 9 motorcycles impounded.
